Protection Under Fire

How can the serviceman be helped in a dangerous situation by praying? Under any circumstance turning to God brings the spiritual strength and understanding that lessen fear and demonstrate divine protection. How does God communicate with us to overcome fear? Through inspired thought, through the spiritual ideas that make us able to feel God's presence and all-power.

Fear, doubt, hopelessness, are all false qualities of thought originating in a human sense of existence in matter. These suggestions crowding into consciousness tend to make us feel that we are separated from God, that God is not ever present but far off, that God cannot hear our prayers. Now, how do we pray in such a situation? How do we bring about the necessary changes in our consciousness that will dispel fear, doubt, and discouragement?

The student of Christian Science has learned to start his prayers with God. He acknowledges God's allness and His ever-presence, omnipotence, and care. Here he often finds it helpful to think about the Lord's Prayer, together with its spiritual interpretation by Mrs. Eddy, which begins:
