Christian Science—The Law of God

Once one gains a glimpse of what Christian Science really is, he will let nothing stand in the way of his getting a demonstrable understanding of it. It is not a philosophy, a humanly derived compilation of knowledge, or an attempt to explain the supernatural in scientific terms. Its Discoverer and Founder, Mrs. Eddy, defines it as "the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony." Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1; And he who gains the correct concept of Christian Science and lives in accord with it is able to demonstrate it effectively. The student must recognize that divine Principle, God, is the impelling power, the motivating cause, and that this Science is the modus operandi of divine Principle. It is the way God governs the human experience, the way Christ, Truth, becomes flesh and is apparent in healing and regeneration. This Science was discovered, not invented. It is "the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." Hebr. 13:8;

When Christ Jesus was questioned about his ability to teach the law of God, he said: "My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." John 7:16, 17; We can come to know God as creative Love, as intelligent Mind, as governing Principle; and we can come to know man as the expression of this great cause, the harmonious manifestation of God. In understanding God we understand the character of His law as thoroughly good and as perfectly harmonious. And we come to know the truth of man in God's likeness, the truth that Jesus said would make us free.

All problems or inharmonies arise from misconceptions. Frustration, fear, despair, arise from belief in evil as a power opposed to God. They rest upon a mistaken sense of life as material and limited and of man as mortal. These were the basic errors that Jesus challenged. He proved that a knowledge of God, of eternal Life, liberated the individual from disease and death. He proved that a knowledge of God as infinite good released men from lack, from sin, and from fear. He came to demonstrate Christ, the true idea of God, and to show how the Christ heals and redeems humanity.
