Neutral or High Gear?
During the peak hours of bridge traffic, a Christian Scientist was driving at a snail's pace in a massive snarl of cars. After forty minutes of grueling bumper-to-bumper stopping and starting she thought, "Surely there must be a better way than this!" Simultaneously her eyes fell on seven words printed on the back cover of a Christian Science Sentinel on the adjacent seat, ARE YOU PUTTING YOUR THOUGHT "INTO NEUTRAL"?
She suddenly realized that this was exactly what she was doing: putting her thought "into neutral," coasting along and doing absolutely nothing about the error that was claiming that progress can be impeded.
Aroused by the timely rebuke, she opened the Sentinel. One statement of Truth after another concerning God's ever-present love and irresistible power poured into her receptive thought. Within minutes she felt certain that she had complete command of the situation.
