"My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever" (Ps. 73:26). I can testify that this proved to be true in my case.

During the hay season on our alfalfa ranch, I assisted with the irrigating on one field while the hay work progressed on another section of the ranch. One afternoon when I had just completed a water change and turned to go home, I was seized with severe chest pains. Breathing became difficult; and although there was extreme fear, I found myself saying, "Dear Father, God, help me." I tried to pray, and the following words from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy came to me (p. 495): "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea."

Slowly I was able to climb into our pick-up truck and drive to the house. My mother met me at the door, and I barely whispered to her to call a Christian Science practitioner. For several minutes I remained standing, unable to sit or lie down. I never doubted for a moment that the healing power of divine Truth was ever present to help me. In less than half an hour breathing became normal, the pain and fear disappeared, and I was able to lie down on the sofa. A short time later I arose and prepared our evening meal. This healing took place eleven years ago and has been permanent.
