Listening for God's Voice

In the Bible there are many accounts of communications between God and various characters in the Old Testament, such as Noah, Abraham, Jacob, and Moses. Referring to these, Mrs. Eddy says, "The Soul-inspired patriarchs heard the voice of Truth, and talked with God as consciously as man talks with man." Science and Health, p. 308;

It is possible for us to talk with God consciously today? To the extent that we are inspired by Soul, it is. But this communication does not involve the human voice or ear; it is a mental and spiritual activity.

In the beautiful first chapter of Science and Health, entitled "Prayer," Mrs. Eddy gives us much helpful counsel about communing with God. We must silence the material senses, she tells us; we must love God and know His allness. Anyone who truly desires to understand how to become more Soul-inspired can gain much from a thoughtful study of this chapter.
