My heartfelt gratitude goes out to Mrs. Eddy for bringing to our attention the importance of listening to and obeying the still small voice.

Several years ago I awakened one morning with a sense of foreboding. It therefore seemed wise to do more than the usual prayerful work. I gave special heed to the ninety-first Psalm and to the admonition of Mrs. Eddy in her short article entitled "Ways that are Vain" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 213): "Guard and strengthen your own citadel more strongly." I also pondered the Bible passage (Job 28:7), "There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen."

The branch church of which I am a member was only a short distance from my home, and therefore I usually walked. That evening on my way to attend the quarterly business meeting the thought came, "You will be stopped," but I felt well armed with the truth and continued on my way.
