You Are Not Cut Off from Reality
Have you felt cut off from the reality of being? Have you despaired of finding and experiencing universal Truth and of feeling unreservedly at one with all that is good and beautiful? Have you longed for clearer insight into the essence of man and for warmer, more meaningful relationships allowing freer exchange of trust, understanding, and support?
A teen-ager had long felt these emotions. Her homelife had been filled with conflict and misunderstanding. She had been unable to get a clear concept of what and where God is. In a lonely, despondent mood she went for a walk along some clifftops overlooking the ocean. The shimmering beauty of the day gradually started to uplift her. She stopped and gazed, more and more entranced as time passed, at the swoop of gulls over the blue sea, the sparkle of sunlight on the whitecaps, the foliage in all shades of green along the shore ruffling in the warm breeze, and the distant forms of picnickers and wading children.
She began to feel something of the true harmony and peace of God, man, and nature. Vast stretches of white-puffed sky gave her some concept of infinity; the ceaseless, rhythmic crashing of the surf hinted the nature of eternity. A state of spiritual bliss welled up in her and brought an exalted sense of the omnipresence of good. Love, beauty, light, joy, seemed so near and tangible that she stretched out her arms to what she knew must be the all-embracing Spirit of the universe. Wave after wave of love for all being surged through her, and she wept with joy. She felt at one with God and His creation. She prayed to receive much more of Truth and the ability to love her fellowmen deeply and unwaveringly.
