Individuality versus Material Personality

Christian Science maintains that each one of us is a unique individual identity, showing forth the infinite individuality of Soul, God, as its reflection. Mrs. Eddy writes, "God is individual, and man is His individualized idea." No and Yes, p. 19;

Personal sense, asserting itself through strong pressure on people to conform to material influences that tend to submerge individuality, vigorously reacts against this spiritual fact. Personal sense, the false, limited view of individuality, is the cause of many evils. In fact, one might say that, human error stems largely from falsely identifying man as a corporeal personality. Mrs. Eddy states: "The world believes in many persons; but if God is personal, there is but one person, because there is but one God. His personality can only be reflected, not transmitted. God has countless ideas, and they all have one Principle and parentage." Science and Health, p. 517;

Man's true, spiritual individuality can never be lost or submerged because it is as definite and eternal as its divine source. If we realize and claim that we individually reflect God's power, intelligence, beauty, health, perfection, and completeness, we are in a position to overcome the errors of personal sense arising from the belief of corporeal existence separated from God. Christian Science calls on us to dethrone personal sense and recognize our individualized expression of God's character, or nature.
