Recently upon arriving in the city where my husband was scheduled...

Recently upon arriving in the city where my husband was scheduled to receive class instruction in Christian Science, we parked our car in the street in front of the home of friends with whom we were going to stay for the next two weeks.

That evening while I was putting our children to bed, my friend called me to a window that overlooked the street and pointed out a gathering crowd which at first appeared to be just a peaceful group. After our friends retired, my husband and I decided to remain up a while longer. Presently we heard noises from the street, and looking out, found the crowd had grown restless, shouting racial epithets, throwing rocks and bottles at passing cars, and setting fires close to our friends' home.

I had never experienced anything like this before and grew quite fearful for the safety of our children and ourselves. One of our little girls was awakened by the commotion and cried out when she heard something hitting the windows. We were able to quiet and comfort her with the truths of God's goodness and presence, and soon she and her sister were resting normally.
