A Breakthrough in Human Relations

One field that has yet to experience a breakthrough in the modern era is that of human relations. There has been relatively little progress in this sphere in comparison with that made in such fields as industry and science. Material reasoning argues that human problems are so complex, so sensitive, and of such magnitude they cannot be resolved in any simple manner. Yet what Christ Jesus prescribed for order and harmony among men was very simple: "Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them." Matt. 7:12; We all know this as the Golden Rule.

The spirit of this heavenly injunction permeates the teachings of Christian Science, the logic of which unfolds the true brotherhood of man and the powerlessness of the evil forces that would set men and nations at variance with each other.

Students of Christian Science are learning to know and demonstrate that God is the source of all good and that because God created good only, evil is nothingness. They are learning that what does not originate in God is but the illusion of a false material sense. Through this scientific, prayerful reasoning they come to realize with practical results for themselves and the whole world that hate, greed, and immorality—the warring elements that separate men—do not emanate from God or from His image, man. Therefore they are false claimants to reality and power and cannot pit man against his brother man.
