I have had many proofs of God's loving care throughout the years through the healing power of Christian Science. When I was a young girl, my mother was introduced to Science by a friend and neighbor. I, too, soon started to read the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and loved it. At that time a long-standing, painful back condition was healed in a few treatments a Christian Science practitioner gave me at my own request.

I earnestly took up the study of this Science to understand better what had healed me. "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you" (James 4:8) became a guideline and has helped me out of many problems. Especially was this needful spiritualization of my own thought helpful during the trying years of an unhappy marriage. In later years I experienced the joy of a happy union and most satisfying companionship with a Christian Scientist. I am grateful that my two sons were brought up in the Christian Science Sunday School. They both have received many blessings because of it.

An outstanding healing occurred during the birth of my first child. Medical predictions were that because of abnormal physical conditions neither I nor the baby would live. A Christian Science practitioner was engaged and stood by to respond to our call day and night, and a normal delivery came about very soon. Likewise, with the second child, through the clear understanding of the practitioner, every material so-called law was denied as unreal. It was seen that man is the reflected idea of God's perfection, that man lives and moves and has his being in divine Mind, not in matter. This baby, too, was protected.

One day this son, returning from a basketball game, was hit by a coal truck. The boy was caught between the wheels and dragged a few blocks. There was a large box attached to the underpart of the truck, to which he clung. He was taken to the hospital, and we were notified. Immediately we called a practitioner, who began treatment for him in Christian Science. After three days we were able to bring the boy home. Many false beliefs had to be overcome, for the medical prediction had been that he would have to be in a cast for many weeks because of a serious back injury. Instead, without a cast and through radical reliance on God, he was up and about within a week, able to play ball again.

Today both sons, now strong and active men, have families of their own. Their experiences in the Navy during World War II evidenced divine protection. We prayed daily at home not only for their safety but for the safety of all of God's children everywhere, always. Many times our sons' ships were under heavy submarine attack. As a gunner's mate, while strapped to his gun on the outside deck, the younger son fearlessly faced a perilous situation. The officer had told all his men that prayer alone would help them. The ship was hit on one side. Through prayer the younger son felt the sheltering nearness of the Christ. He was glad for his early Sunday School training. The ship returned safely to harbor.

Our household has had every human need provided for through our sole reliance on God as ever-present, omnipotent Spirit, the giver of all good. I could go on and on, telling of the healings we have received through our trust in God's care. Our loving Father surely has been with us every step of the way.

For membership in The Mother Church and active branch church work for many years, for class instruction and the yearly association meeting, for Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and for Mrs. Eddy, the God-inspired Leader of the Christian Science movement, who gave to the world this healing truth, I am deeply and humbly grateful.

I am happy to verify my mother's testimony. I am the older son and witnessed how the truck struck down my brother. I immediately turned to God in prayer for help. I am grateful for all the healings and protection during wartime.
