"Calm, strong currents"

Amid the turbulent elements in today's society, when traditional standards are set aside and family discipline is at an ebb, we need to search out the stabilizing influences that reflect divine Principle and must eventually be honored and demonstrated if society is to proceed on a progressive course. For a time it may seem as if we are foundering in crosscurrents that lead to ever more dangerous situations with no relief in sight. But spiritual insight and prayer can reveal the invisible government of divine Love, unfold the force of spiritual law, and lead us to the practical steps that bring this government to light in our human experience.

Perhaps someone's marriage is going on the rocks. The influences of immorality, drugs, or alcohol may be undermining that union, bringing confusion. Where do we turn for rescue? We turn to the ever-present Christ, to the forces of Spirit, the divine influences manifest in integrity, purity, love, fidelity. Such forces as these make up the character of man in the image and likeness of God. These are the real elements of manhood that can be demonstrated to right the equilibrium of our human relationships. We must not concede the initiative to evil. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health, "Evil is not supreme; good is not helpless; nor are the so-called laws of matter primary, and the law of Spirit secondary." Science and Health, p. 207;

Christian Science unfolds the laws of God that control the universe and man and are demonstrable here and now. The fundamental nature of man is spiritual. He manifests self-knowledge and self-control. Everything in his nature responds to divine impulsion. He is the expression of God. With such knowledge we can challenge the suggestions of evil that argue for lack of control, moral courage, and self-respect.
