For many years Christian Science has been my only physician...
For many years Christian Science has been my only physician and the way of Life for my family and me. I can never be grateful enough for Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy. It has indeed been the key that has opened to me a new insight into the promises of the Holy Bible.
Although I had a strict religious upbringing, attending regularly the church my parents attended, I could not feel the freedom I felt should be mine, and from time to time I would attend churches of other denominations with no better result. Shortly after my marriage I lived near a woman who became my friend and confidante. When I pointed out my doubts and uncertainties about my church, she told me that she had a book she thought I would like to read. She gave me Science and Health. That evening I read the chapter on Prayer, and I knew that I had found what I had been looking for. I continued to read the book and to apply Christian Science, as I understood it, during my first pregnancy. The birth was normal and free of complications. My decision to attend church and to apply Christian Science was met with strong objections from my family. I did not protest, but I knew that I could not give up my newfound religion.
The following fall I became ill with quinsy, and during the entire winter I could not talk but communicated with others by writing notes. Medicine was brought to the house for me, but I did not take any of it. I relied entirely upon my meager understanding of Christian Science to heal me. By spring I was free, but in the fall I began to manifest the same symptoms that I had had the previous year. This time I took my stand and requested my husband to call a Christian Science practitioner. The practitioner told my husband that she would take up the work immediately. The next day I could talk freely, and to this day I have never had a recurrence of that trouble.
