Are We Reachable?

Mrs. Eddy writes, "If the Scientist reaches his patient through divine Love, the healing work will be accomplished at one visit, and the disease will vanish into its native nothingness like dew before the morning sunshine."  Science and Health, p. 365; The practitioner or the one giving treatment must indeed work from the basis of Love's allness, Love's omnipotence. Healing work must be based solidly on the understanding and expression of divine Love.

We must also be alert to see that the patient too has a part in a treatment. It is highly important that he be reachable—that his thought be imbued with qualities that permit him to respond to the treatment and be healed.

A young man once came to Christ Jesus, we are told in Mark's Gospel, seeking the way to inherit eternal life. The Master called his attention to certain of the commandments, which, the young man replied, he had observed from his youth. Then Jesus said to him, "One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, . . . and come, take up the cross, and follow me."  Mark 10:21; The Bible says that the young man "was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions."
