Applying Intelligence to Strife
In the present age we see the attempts of the carnal mind (a supposed intelligence apart from the divine Mind) to endow materialism with power to convince mankind that it is the end and aim of all things. This so-called mind tries to shake their faith in God's power and even declares that God is nonexistent. But true intelligence—the capacity to understand God—defeats materialism at every turn and proves the omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience of Mind.
Christ Jesus prophesied, "And there shall be . . . upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; . . . men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken." Luke 21:25, 26; And further on he gives us wonderful assurance in these words: "When these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh."' Since that is a promise, we could not find a better time to "look up." We are to lift our heads joyfully above material conditions and perceive the divine facts of harmonious being as revealed in Christian Science, using the great gift of intelligence to consider them, learn them, and demonstrate them as our Exemplar, Jesus, did.
All dissensions, riots, and wars show the workings of mortal mind, or the belief of a power opposed to God. As long as men believe that violence can produce something good, violence will continue. Intelligent thinkers must come to the rescue and persuade mankind that adherence to God's law of justice and truth will bring about freedom, harmony, and goodwill.
