Lend, hoping for nothing again (Luke 6:35)

There is some doubt as to the literal meaning of the Greek phrase thus translated, for though Moffatt has, "You must lend to them without expecting any return," Good-speed renders, "Lend to them, never despairing," since "despair" is the literal meaning of the verb.
