My first published testimony appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel for April 1, 1950. The physical healings related there have remained permanent. In the intervening years many additional blessings have resulted from my continued study and application of Christian Science.

One healing occurred in the following way. Sometime in the mid-1950's I was seized with sudden deafness. Great fear possessed my thinking, and the truths of Christian Science I applied or read were to me, for a while, merely words. I had the understanding and persevering help of a Christian Science practitioner until I felt confident of doing the work myself. From time to time I would seek the aid of a practitioner; yet the hearing problem did not yield.

Then the executive board of my branch church asked me to serve as parliamentary chairman for the membership meetings. At first I thought I couldn't possibly do this because I couldn't hear. Then I thought, "Aren't you expecting to be healed? The answer came, "Yes." Then the thought followed: "You had better act as though you expect to be healed." Thereupon I accepted the appointment. Again I sought treatment from a practitioner and began preparation for my first meeting. The evening arrived. The deafness had not yielded, but I was able to understand what was necessary to conduct the meeting.
