My first experience in Christian Science took place when I was a young woman working in a very small print shop. My hand was caught in a hand-fed letterpress. The appearance of the hand was alarming. Although I did not know it, my employer was a Christian Scientist. He quieted my fear and took me home to his wife, who had formerly been a registered medical nurse. She merely cleaned and wrapped the hand and assured me that all was well. To my great surprise I was soon free from pain and suffered no loss of activity. It was several years before I realized that this was my first Christian Science healing, and that it had been brought about by the prompt rejection by my employer and his wife of the error that man can suffer injury.

I have always been especially grateful for a healing of impetigo on the faces of my young children. The disease completely disappeared after about two weeks as the result of treatment given by a Christian Science practitioner. There has never been a return.

Through an improved concept of God's government, gained through the study of Christian Science, our family has experienced healings of so-called children's diseases, severe asthma attacks, constipation, broken bones, and inharmonious relationships. After an automobile accident I was once unable to walk and asked for treatment from a Christian Science practitioner. Later, a medical examination required for insurance purposes showed that two breaks had been properly set.

Later in my study of Christian Science healings took place through my own application of the truth. My young son drank a chemical fluid which an older brother had been using. It had been borrowed from a next door neighbor who was away, and there was no way to find out quickly just what it was. Immediately the positive assurance came that I didn't need to know what the human belief about the fluid was. I knew that since the child's true being was that of a spiritual representative of his heavenly Father his life did not depend on any material condition.

I accepted the Biblical promise (Mark 16:17, 18), "These signs shall follow them that believe;... if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them," as applying to our time and to this particular instance; and I was so sure of this application that we went about our regular activities. There was no evidence of illness, and within a short time the boy's stomach emptied naturally. This illustration of divine Love's instant availability and control is of much comfort to me.

The privilege of class instruction has been a long step in my progress Spiritward. My life is supported and enriched by each activity of the Christian Science movement.
