I have great cause to be grateful for Christian Science, which healed me of tuberculosis thirty-four years ago. After World War I, I left Britain and went to another part of the Commonwealth to live. I became very homesick and discontented in my new home. This unhappy state of thought soon manifested itself in ill health.

I tried all that medical practice had to offer, and like the woman in Mark's Gospel I "was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse" (5:26). An X-ray examination showed an advanced case of tuberculosis. At this point a friend, to whom I shall always feel indebted, invited me to attend a Christian Science Wednesday evening testimony meeting. I knew nothing about the teachings of Christian Science, but I did know the woman in whose home the meetings were held. Because that woman was letting the light of Love shine in her own life, I decided to attend that meeting.

I must have gotten a glimpse of the truth that evening because from then on I wanted Christian Science. I began to study Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and the Lesson-Sermons, and I began to get better. Within six months I was healed, and I knew what had healed me. It was the truth I had found in the Christian Science textbook, the truth that life and reality are in Spirit, not in matter.
