Purifying the Depths of Thought
Matthew records that a woman who had been diseased for twelve years came behind Christ Jesus and touched the hem of his garment. When the Master turned and saw her, he said, "Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole." Matt. 9:22: This same healing Christ is found today in Christian Science, and many have been healed when they but touched the hem of its garment.
When the Christ, Truth, is first touched by the human consciousness, the healing effect is immediately sweet. But that individual who would understand this healing power soon finds that one touch is not enough. As he continues to study, the digestion of the truth can become bitter, and he may often wish for the case with which he first began his study.
This stage of progress was predicted in the Bible by the Revelator. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy—the little book that heals even those who first read it—is typified by an angel holding a book and standing upon both the sea and the earth. John heard a voice from heaven saying, "Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth." Rev. 10:8; And the voice further commanded. "Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey."
