Shortly before Christmas two years ago, our younger son was involved in an automobile accident. It occurred some thirty miles from our home during a heavy rainstorm in the mountains. The first my husband and I knew of it was through a call from the hospital to which the boy was taken. As we drove to the hospital, we prayed, trying hard to overcome fear.

The picture presented to us by the authorities at the hospital was not encouraging. They wanted our permission to operate immediately, and they feared for our son's life. They gave him less than a fifty-fifty chance for survival, even with surgery, and then expressed the thought that he might suffer permanent damage if he did survive.

We knew that we must take our stand and rely entirely upon God. We called a Christian Science practitioner, who immediately began treatment in Christian Science. The need was apparent to get the boy out of the fear-pervaded atmosphere of the hospital, and yet it did not seem wise to take him home because of the attention the wounds seemed to require. Arrangements were made for his admission to a Christian Science nursing home in the area, and we requested his immediate release from the hospital.
