RADIO PROGRAM NO. 348 - Facing Up to Discontent

[The speaker is Mrs. Florence Ludgate who is active in the healing ministry of Christian Science. The questioner is Robert McKinnon.]

Questioner: Many people, especially many women, are discontented about the way their lives are going and about their roles in life. Although they get involved in community affairs and other activities, this isn't necessarily enough. There is still an inner feeling of discontent, even bitterness. What can be done about it? Speaker: I think all of us can begin by asking ourselves what our true role, our continuing purpose, our reason for being, is. Must it be changeable, limited, limiting?

Questioner: But for many people their sole purpose in life does change, does become extremely limited. For example, a secretary who's very wrapped up in her job but whose boss is now retired finds herself without this purpose any longer. A mother whose children grow up and leave home no longer feels the purpose of raising a family, of giving guidance, and so forth.
