We Can Control Our Bodies

Do we rebel when some physical discord strikes us? At whom or what are we rebelling? Can our bodies act without our consciousness to impel the action? Are they disconnected from our thinking? Can we control our own bodies?

These are questions that Christian Science answers. It explains the mental nature of every physical condition and shows that each person is responsible for his own state of health. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures Mary Baker Eddy says: "Mortals develop their own bodies or make them sick, according as they influence them through mortal mind. To know whether this development is produced consciously or unconsciously, is of less importance than a knowledge of the fact." Science and Health, p. 199;

When we rebel at sickness as if our thinking had nothing to do with it, we are behaving foolishly. The right thing to do is to correct our thinking, to get rid of negative thoughts—either conscious or unconscious ones—and replace them with thoughts of peace and purity, harmony, and obedience to God's will.
