A College Student Writes

Confidence at Exam Time

Educators and employers are apt to judge a person's intellectual ability by his scores on ability or IQ tests. These tests could be the deciding factor for one s future, so it is very important to understand where our ability comes from.

In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, "God is intelligence."  Science and Health, p. 2; Since man is constantly expressing God, the more we learn of God, the more we can express Him. By seeing ourselves as the brilliant reflection of the ever-present Mind, God, we are throwing open the door of our consciousness and letting the warm sunlight of Truth fill us. As we learn to put away the belief that we are the originators of ideas and realize that we have a higher source of intelligence and power to rely on, we overcome the suggestion of inability.

The fear of failure is often prevalent in a student's thought. He unconsciously decides for himself what the outcome will be. If he is sure he is going to fail, he most likely will, since his thinking governs his experience. But in Christian Science one can rebel against the suggestion of failure and claim for himself man's oneness, or unity, with intelligent Mind. If he gains an understanding of his connection with divine intelligence, the student will inevitably succeed. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says: "The devotion of thought to an honest achievement makes the achievement possible. Exceptions only confirm this rule, proving that failure is occasioned by a too feeble faith." p. 199;
