Laurie's Island Adventure
[For children]
Laurie and her father and mother went on a camping trip to the Big Island, one of the Hawaiian Islands. This is a beautiful place far out in the Pacific Ocean. They rented a trailer that opened up into a tent, and they had a wonderful time sleeping by the ocean or in the mountains and cooking over a campfire. And one day Laurie climbed on a volcano. It was exciting to put her hand in the hot steam coming out of a crack in the ground.
On Sunday they were camping far from any town, and there was no Christian Science Sunday School for Laurie to attend. But they had with them their Bible, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and the Christian Science Quarterly. Laurie's father suggested, "Let's take our books and climb up this hill."
There they found an old stone heiau (pronounced hay-ow) where hundreds of years ago the first Hawaiians used to come to worship. This looked like a good place for the family to have Sunday School.
