The Way to Freedom
People have always yearned for freedom, and many, like the colonists of North America, have made brave efforts to attain it. But until a little over a century ago no one realized that there was a spiritually scientific means of gaining freedom from bondage. It was Mrs. Eddy who discovered that obedience to divine law brings men not only political freedom but freedom from human limitation, discords, and physical ills.
In describing her revelation, Mrs. Eddy writes, "I saw that the law of mortal belief included all error, and that, even as oppressive laws are disputed and mortals are taught their right to freedom, so the claims of the enslaving senses must be denied and superseded." Science and Health, p. 227; And a little farther on we read: "Christian Science raises the standard of liberty and cries: 'Follow me! Escape from the bondage of sickness, sin, and death!' Jesus marked out the way. Citizens of the world, accept the 'glorious liberty of the children of God,' and be free!"
This is a splendid possibility and a full-time task. It means a step-by-step change of thought from a material to a spiritual basis and the constant acknowledgment of God as the only power. This is the practice of Christian Science, and it Breaks the fetters of all human bondage.
