Words cannot express my gratitude to my dear mother who, although she was a graduate medical nurse, was so attracted by the Christian Science church services that she felt this was the religion she wanted for me, her only child. At the age of seven I was enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School with the consent of my father, who had been reared in an orthodox religion. Within a short time we realized that since starting Sunday School I had not had the frequent attacks of bronchitis that had bothered me from the time I was two years old. Neither did several foods that had formerly disagreed with me have any ill effects.

Whenever I was sick, I recall my mother telling me that I must immediately do prayerful work as I was taught to do at my Sunday School because it was not right to let a problem go unsolved. And my healings always came as I pondered the Bible truths with their reassurance of God's ever-present loving care for His children. On one occasion my mother told me that if the fever and illness I was having were not healed by the next day she would have to call a physician. All that night I clung to the Psalmist's promise (Ps. 91:10, 11): "There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." When I awoke the next morning, I was healed.

Indeed, even before we ask, our Father in heaven knows our need. When I was about eleven years old, my father engaged a piano teacher for me who was an experienced Christian Scientist. She helped to increase my understanding of God and supported me in prayerful work to bring about healings of so-called children's diseases, hives, and sinus trouble. Through her help my mother too experienced healings.
