"More than profession"

The early Christians recognized the need to demonstrate the practicability of Truth, or God, by healing the sick as well as the sinning, and they were remarkably successful. But ritual and creed gradually dimmed the understanding of the healing power of Truth until it became little more than a matter for speculation among Bible scholars. Then in 1866 a spiritually-minded woman and profound thinker, Mrs. Eddy, discovered the divine laws of Life and again demonstrated them in healing.

Every student of Christian Science has a sacred duty to perform in manifesting to humanity the spiritual vitality of Mrs. Eddy's discovery. She writes: "Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power. These proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them." Science and Health, p. 233;

A genuine Christian Scientist is an advocate of God's law. He endeavors to prove what he professes. He knows that he must bear true witness of himself before he can bear true witness of his neighbor and that every time that he is successful in doing this, his ability to be a law of harmony to himself is enhanced because he is more aware of the dominion with which our loving Father-Mother has endowed each of His ideas.
