Written words usually stay on a page in neat, objective order. This includes the words of the Bible. normally, when they are read, recalled or spoken, they are passive to the mind handling them. But there are times when the Word assumes an initiative and the mind listens and is acted upon.

[Such an] experience befell the late Bishop Eivind Berggrav of Norway during World War II. With others he was hoping to be rescued by the English air force or navy. Suddenly he heard in his mind the utterance of Isaiah: "Fear thou not...for I am thy God." The bishop said, "Seemingly God was knocking me down to make me discover him. He reached his goal. The words created a new heart in me."
