A number of years ago I became afflicted with a serious and very painful disease of the eyes which was not relieved by the best medical treatment obtainable. The trouble became progressively worse and greatly impaired my sight. Finally an eye specialist informed me that no further medical remedy was available and my only hope of relief from the pain lay in a surgical operation, which, however, would destroy my last remaining sight.

I was a relatively young woman, undergoing constant severe pain, and now faced with complete loss of vision. The situation appeared hopeless, but I had some knowledge of Christian Science. There were no students of Science in our community, but in my extremity I decided to rely wholly on God. I spent several succeeding days in deeply sincere prayer of repentance, of petition for guidance, and for a clearer understanding of God and my relationship to Him. Then I was led to write a letter to a Christian Science practitioner, who lived in a city at some distance. I asked for treatment, which was given at once.

The night after my letter reached her, I slept peacefully and awakened in the morning free from pain and with completely restored vision. The effect of this experience was almost inexpressible. Everything about me was radiant with beauty I had never before seen. It was wintertime, yet wasteland around my house appeared to be in lovely blossom. The world was transformed, and my husband, who had been sick for several day, suddenly rose from his bed, completely healed, and went to work. The effect in my life of this healing was so great that I hesitated to speak of it for several days until at last my husband recommended that I complete arrangements with the surgeon for the operation. Then I was able to tell him that the surgical work was no longer necessary because I had been healed through Christian Science.
