A Firm Foundation

A student of Christian Science needs to have his thinking established on the firm foundation of Truth. As he turns wholeheartedly to God desiring to serve Him better, he is willing to give up impurities of human belief and to put into practice what he has already learned of Truth. Divine Love reflected enables him to demonstrate true health, joy, and peace. These spiritual qualities never fluctuate or vary and are not subject to material circumstances and conditions.

The replacing through Science of the mortal concept of life with the immortal truth of being is the new birth which all must experience in their journey from sense to Soul. As the old concept of man is put off, man's true identity as a child of God comes to light.

Christ Jesus said to Nicodemus, "Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." John 3:7; This new birth teaches us to wait on God, to have a genuine affection and appreciation of all God's creation, and to forgive others as we would have them forgive us. Above all, it teaches us to have an abiding faith in the goodness of God: at first an unquestioning trust; then an enlightened faith; and finally, a spiritual understanding of Him who is All-in-all. Referring to Christian Science Mrs. Eddy says, "The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind." Science and Health, p. 162;
