In our family we have had many proofs of the efficacy of Christian Science treatment in healing discordant conditions of all kinds. One healing, which is still vivid in my memory, occurred when our young son's knee became infected. We were not very diligent in our prayerful work until one evening at a neighborhood picnic the neighbors expressed much fear at the appearance of the knee.

After we got home that evening rather late, we tried to get in touch with a practitioner; but we were unable to. We therefore settled down to work the problem out ourselves. By referring to the Concordance we found this sentence in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 153): "We weep because others weep, we yawn because they yawn, and we have smallpox because others have it; but mortal mind, not matter, contains and carries the infection." We went earnestly to work with the last part of this sentence and didn't retire for the night until our thoughts were free from fear.

In the morning there was a remarkable improvement in the knee, and a complete healing followed quickly. It was a wholesome thing for us that we were forced to do our own work on that occasion; it strengthened our understanding.
