To Express Is to Experience

We are sometimes told that what we send into the lives of others comes back into our own. To those who do not know that there is a demonstrable, scientific rule underlying this fact, such a conception may seem nothing more than a pleasant or unpleasant platitude. However, it does point to a logical, provable, and very rewarding truth, such as is found in Christ Jesus' words in the prayer he gave his followers, "Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors," Matt. 6:12; and in Mrs. Eddy's interpretation of their spiritual meaning, "And Love is reflected in love." Science and Health, p. 17;

Understanding these statements, the Christian Scientist realizes that to experience good he must be good; to experience success he must be rich in spiritual ideas; and to experience health and happiness he must express purity, righteousness, and unselfed love.

Some years ago it was necessary for a young student of Christian Science to join periodically a group of people who were new to him and with whom he felt he had nothing in common. Moreover, believing himself to be diffident and self-conscious with strangers, the thought of such a venture presented to him something of a challenge. And certainly, when the time came, his reception into the group was not a noticeably warm one.
