Our Real Reward

Our good deeds often appear to go unrewarded. In business and home relations we are not always treated the way we think we deserve to be. But harboring a sense of injustice is neither helpful nor rewarding. At such times we must rise above what seems to be an inequity and realize that our real reward is spiritual, not material.

We learn in Christian Science that omnipresent God is ever bestowing spiritual riches upon His emanation, immortal man. Our great Exemplar, Jesus, understood his real identity to be the Christ, the spiritual idea of God. Christ Jesus knew that one who honors the Christ by doing good deeds will never go unrewarded. The Master told his disciples, "Whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward." Mark 9:41;

When we have given of our labors or our love with Christliness, unselfishness, and goodwill, we have been impelled by our loving Father to manifest His power and presence. Having been receptive to God's direction, we are prepared in thought to receive our reward from God, the source of all happiness and goodness. This spiritual reward comes to us as we maintain the same receptive and inspired thinking that motivated our giving and as we understand that our spiritual identity, the image of God, is inseparable from eternal Love. Continuing to demonstrate the love of Love, we feel God's power filling our consciousness with joy, satisfaction, and completeness. No greater remuneration can come to us than this mental and spiritual abundance and happiness which God grants to us.
