A Progressive Way
[For young adults]
A Christian Scientist in his teens enlisted in the United States Navy with a specific goal in mind—to continue his education in the same field he had pursued in college.
After eleven weeks of basic training he was stationed aboard a destroyer about two hundred miles from home. But he didn't have his desired schooling. He found himself in a very disappointing situation. Remarks such as "You have to know the right people to get anywhere" and "You'll be lucky if you get what you want" came to him from his shipmates.
He decided to work the problem out according to Christian Science. He asked his mother, who was also a Christian Scientist, to help him. They prayed to know that God is omnipotent—a good basis for resolving any discordant human problem. Soon the seaman was transferred out of his unpleasant surroundings and given more purposeful activity on the ship, but still no schooling.
