Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with...

"Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name" (Ps. 100:4). These words express my gratitude to God for His goodness to me and all mankind by the revelation of His practical law of good through divine Science.

A few years ago I was bitterly unhappy and suffering from attacks of asthma. Although I loved my children dearly, I was so tired and discouraged that life had very little meaning for me. When the physician who was trying to help me suggested that I purchase the equipment and medicine to give myself injections when the attacks of asthma came, I recoiled in horror at such bondage. I refused to buy it, but another member of the family did. Every time I opened the cupboard door and saw the unopened box I would, in great anguish of thought, ask God why and how I had arrived at this state. I had been reared in the belief that God punished sin and tried one's faith by sending illness and problems.

When things seemed the very blackest, I met a Christian Scientist and much to my surprise heard myself blurt out that I guessed I needed Christian Science, although I knew nothing about it. I shall never forget the straight, loving look she gave me. She brought me copies of The Christian Science Journal and Christian Science Sentinel. They truly comforted me, and I was hungry for more understanding. This friend helped me to mark the Christian Science Quarterly Lesson-Sermon in the Bible and a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which I purchased from a Christian Science Reading Room, and encouraged me when I faltered. I enrolled the children in the Sunday School.
