When our daughter was young, she became very ill, and a doctor...

When our daughter was young, she became very ill, and a doctor was called. Several days went by, and the condition worsened. The doctor then called in a colleague, who confirmed his diagnosis of spinal meningitis. We were told the child must undergo a spinal tap, or she would not live through the night. I refused and asked them to leave.

As soon as they had gone, I turned to my husband and told him this was an opportunity to prove to me what Christian Science could do. He had attended a Christian Science Sunday School as a child and had related healings he had had through the application of the truths taught; however, at this time I was very much opposed to what I believed Science to be.

Immediately he got in touch with a former Sunday School teacher of his, who began prayerful work for the child. The spasms ceased almost immediately. Soon she fell into a natural sleep; and she awakened in the morning completely free from any evidence of illness or weakness, and there were no aftereffects. Indeed, absolute proof of the healing power of Christian Science had been given.

I did not take up the study of Science in earnest at that time, although I was in great need of physical healing. But as time went on, the Bible together with Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy became more and more a source of comfort and assurance of God's loving presence. Gradually health was restored.

Many physical healings have been experienced in our home; human relationship, business, and financial problems have been harmoniously worked out; and complete protection was evidenced in an accident. These experiences have proven the Psalmist's words (Ps. 46:1), "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."

For several years the joy of membership in The Mother Church, active work in a branch church, and the inspiration of class instruction have brought me a better life through a clearer understanding of God. For Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, for Mrs. Eddy, and for the periodicals which are provided by The Christian Science Publishing Society, my gratitude is unbounded. My daily prayer is that I may help others as I have been helped through our wonderful religion.
