Listening and Healing

The Bible tells us, "The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Hebr. 4:12 We learn in Christian Science that we can become conscious in any situation of the Word of God. If we are asked to pray for someone who is sick, for example, we can listen and hear the truth the divine Mind is imparting to man. Then we shall know how to pray. And when we respond meekly, instantly, to the truth we hear, the healing takes place.

Many people, Christians and non-Christians, have learned to listen to God for guidance. And many of these have had experiences of perfect guidance through such listening. Christian Science explains to us how we can listen and how we can tell whether what we hear is actually of God. It shows us that the ability to hear God's voice is not bestowed on selected individuals but is the natural gift of Mind to all of its ideas.

Actually, each of us is an idea of God, of Mind, but the belief that we are creatures of material force and material evolution obscures this ability. By understanding the truth—the unreality of matter and the allness of Mind—we are freed from material belief and can hear what Mind is telling us and act intelligently.
