The most healing power of all is love. ... It is love which alone makes personal relationships of any constructive value. . . . Its motive force is in the desire to understand—not least to understand first ourselves in order that we might with greater freedom understand the other person. Loving is going out of oneself in an imaginative search for that other person as he really is, as he is behind all that he appears or tries to be. . . .
