The Very Best
[Of Special Interest to Young Men and Women]
In his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus asked his followers (Matt. 7:9), "What man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?" And he continued, "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?"
Not only would any loving father give his son that which was reasonably requested, but he would see that the object was carefully chosen and that it was the best that his circumstances permitted. How much more, therefore, can mankind look to the author of all good to bestow upon His children the very best to be had!
To what is man heir? Man's rich legacy consists of the best of everything—not birth, maturity, and decay but life, joy, and peace without end; not sensual impulses but unchanging love; not the temporary and material but true substance; not doubt and indecision but unquestionable wisdom and intelligence.
