RADIO PROGRAM No. 150 - You Can Trust Your Child to God

INTERVIEWER: Many devout people who freely turn to God for guidance in some matters hesitate to place primary dependence on God when a child is ill. And yet it is not unusual to read statements like this one by Thomas E. Powers which appeared in The Laymen's Movement Review: "When there really is a turning to God, a radical and tremendous change can take place in the lives of parents and in the life of the child, even when matters are in a very bad state and sometimes particularly when matters are in a bad state."

I know that Christian Science parents do rely on God for help when the children are ill. I am interested to know more about their approach to the problem.

SPEAKER: Well, Christian Scientists are followers of the teachings of Christ Jesus, and turning to God is the very basis of the Christian healing that he taught. Let me assure you that though Christian Scientists do place their entire reliance on God for healing for themselves and for their children, they do so because they love their children. They want the very best for them, and they have found that depending on God through the prayer of spiritual understanding is the most effective, practical, scientific thing they can do.
