My reactions to my first contact...
My reactions to my first contact with Christian Science, of which I knew nothing, were very skeptical indeed. They gradually changed, however, when I witnessed a remarkable healing of a member of my family who had suffered from migraine and had taken tablets for years.
Later, I became familiar with the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; but not until I was quickly and completely healed in one treatment of blood poisoning through the clear and strong prayers of a practitioner was I really convinced that God's omnipotent truth is available to humanity through the promised Comforter, which Mrs. Eddy named Divine Science, or Christian Science.
Little did I know at that time how great was my need to be healed of many false, retarding traits of character, including sensitiveness, timidity, selfishness, insincerity, conceit, and ingratitude. The more I studied the textbook in conjunction with the Bible, the more these erroneous traits were exposed. Then they began fading away, and with them went the tobacco and drinking habits, which had accompanied the general belief of sensuality and materialism.
