"Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him." Therefore, prayer is not needed to give information to God about our affairs. But if God knows our needs, why doesn't he supply them without our asking?
We do not need to instruct God, but we do need to be instructed by him, and our education depends upon the willingness of our minds and hearts. The purpose of prayer is not to change God's disposition toward us, for that is wholly benevolent, but to change our disposition toward him, for that is frequently antagonistic or apathetic.
