RADIO PROGRAM No. 120 - "The truth shall make you free"
INTERVIEWER: There is no question that many people recognize the vital place of spiritual healing in religion today. For example, the Reverend John Ellis Large, D.D., author of "The Ministry of Healing," is reported as saying that "healing is as much a part of the Christian ministry as preaching a sermon or building churches." On the other hand, how spiritual healing is brought about seems to be a profound mystery to many. We would be interested in your comments. I know the subject is very close to the Christian Scientist.
SPEAKER: Yes, it certainly is. The message of the Bible is that the healing power of God, divine Love, is available to everybody in all ages. One of the Psalms says (103:2–4), "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction." A Christian Scientist accepts this truth and endeavors to put it into practice daily. You remember, Christ Jesus said healing signs would follow "them that believe" (Mark 16:17). In the book of John we read (14:12), "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." Doesn't this show that Christ Jesus expected all his followers to do the healing work? Indeed, they did for about three hundred years after the ministry of Jesus. On one occasion Peter and John healed a man who was lame from birth. Peter said to him (Acts 3:6), "In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk." It was a beautiful healing, and Luke, who was interested in the healing works of Jesus' followers, recorded it in the book of Acts. Stephen and Philip also did great healing work.
The healing truth that Jesus, the disciples, and the early Christians demonstrated is available and is effective today. Jesus said (John 8:31), "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Have you ever thought about that?
