For many years, I looked for...
For many years, I looked for a religion that I could accept wholeheartedly. I was reared in an orthodox church and loved God and Christ Jesus, but I could never believe that God had anything to do with punishment, sickness, or temptation, so I drifted away from church.
After thirty-eight years I was impelled to read a book about the religions of the world. When I had finished, the one I wanted to investigate was Christian Science, for I had always believed in Mind-healing. There was not a Church of Christ, Scientist, in or near the town in which I resided, so I sent to the state library for a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
When I started to read this book, it was not for a healing, because I had tempered myself to pain and suffering; of course I was to learn later that in reality there is no sickness or suffering.
