At one time my life was filled...

At one time my life was filled with misery and heartache. Even though I had been reared as a Christian Scientist, my religion meant little to me, for I did not know how to apply it. Every avenue of loving my neighbor as myself seemed to be closed to me. Try as I would to love my neighbor, figuratively speaking, no results were manifested, and evil was returned for good time after time.

Then one day I realized that in order to love my neighbor as myself, I first had to love myself. This was such a revolutionary idea to me that everything took on new significance. Through regular church attendance, I began seeing Christian Science as the way of Life and not merely as another religion. It gradually unfolded to me that "loving" meant seeing man as God has created him, as His perfect child.

I began to read the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, from cover to cover. The pages appeared illuminated. At the same time I began a study of the biographies of our Leader. As a result of this study, and especially after reading "Mary Baker Eddy: Her Mission and Triumph" by Julia Michael Johnston, I was completely healed of my resistance to Christian Science as being the final revelation of Truth. In addition, I was then able to recognize Mrs. Eddy as being the revelator of Truth to this age.

Immediately I experienced a number of healings. My young son was healed of chronic constipation and nightmares. I was healed of migraine, backaches, and internal disorders.

Through my gratitude for these wonderful healings and countless other blessings, I earnestly and eagerly wished to express my gratitude for Christian Science and Mrs. Eddy by joining The Mother Church and a branch church and by working for our Cause. Through this desire I was completely healed of smoking and social drinking and was then able to apply for membership. Class instruction was a progressive step which I hold most dear. My gratitude is unbounded for the dedicated practitioners who have helped me.

For all these blessings which have come to us through the study of Christian Science, I am indeed humbly grateful. I am grateful too for our Leader, who has given us the workable, provable way of Life, which shows us how to love our neighbors as ourselves.—(Mrs.) Mary Jane Laub, St. Louis, Missouri.
