Christian Herald
The Rev. Prof. Liston Pope Dean, Yale Divinity School in the Christian Herald New York, New York
In trying to anticipate the major issues that will confront the Church in the next generation, one needs ... to think in world terms. ...
Will the emphasis continue to be on the sinfulness of man, the high transcendence of God and the utter ambivalence of all historical achievements? Or will some more positive formulation appear, as suggested in recent emphases of the World Council of Churches on Christ as the hope and light of the world? Predictions here are difficult, especially in view of the crisis situation in which man continually finds himself. But it is not impossible that there will be a renewed emphasis on the immanence of God and the possibilities of man.
