In 1926 a woman who was a colleague of mine called my attention to Christian Science. Soon afterward my wife was taken ill with stomach trouble. She consulted two doctors in succession, and both of them considered an operation necessary. However, because we had learned of Science and had confidence in it, we asked a practitioner for treatment. Through her prayerful work the trouble was completely healed in a short time. Somewhat later, through the ready help of the same practitioner, my wife was healed instantaneously of a sudden attack of fever and chills.
In the course of the years, I too have experienced many blessings through Christian Science. Because of the outcome of World War II, we were obliged to leave our home in eastern Pomerania, and we lost all our possessions. I also lost my position. These occurrences prompted me to turn wholeheartedly to Science. Because of the damage caused by the war, the firm for which I had worked could employ only a small part of its former personnel; so I sought other employment and soon found the kind of work for which I was trained, that of sales representative. However, in 1948 the firm closed down, and I decided to continue to work independently as a business agent.
At the time, the economy of our country was in the process of reconstruction, and it seemed very difficult to obtain good agencies for manufactured goods. A practitioner whom I had asked to help me explained that as God's idea, man expresses His qualities, such as integrity, intelligence, love, and orderliness. I clung to this truth, realizing that in my kind of work these qualities were in great demand, and in a week two good agencies were offered me. From that time on, my business increased steadily, and I was soon able to purchase a car of my own for my work.
