Overcoming Resistance to Healing

Christian Scientists often discuss the need of overcoming the world's resistance to healing, but do they consider seriously enough the resistance to healing within themselves? Yet probably no suggestion of the carnal mind is more aggressive than that which comes to many Scientists—that they cannot heal. They argue within themselves that they do not know how to give a Christian Science treatment, that they are unsure of their spiritual ability to heal, that they have not time for healing work.

What they need, for one thing, is to realize that it is Truth that does the healing and that they can always know the truth. Christ Jesus said (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." He described himself to his opponents as "a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God." He listened; hence he heard the truth. He said further, "He that is of God heareth God's words." But of Satan he declared, "He ... abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him."

Plainly, we need to condition ourselves spiritually if we are to know the truth that heals and to prove that there is no truth in evil. Jesus tells us how to do this. We are to love God supremely and our neighbor as ourself. This means disbelieving the physical senses, rejecting their sinful and sick misrepresentations of man. Such love requires looking with the penetration of pure Christliness into the truth of man's perfection in the Science of being. And it calls for scientific knowledge of the nothingness of evil.
