I was  born crippled, and the doctors said that the deformity would be permanent. My parents turned to Christian Science. Within a few months my healing was complete.

Happiness truly is not material, but spiritual. As a child, I wished for happiness. In my late teens the suggestion came that others seemed to have fun smoking or drinking. It did not take me long to find that there is no real pleasure in doing either and to realize they brought no good but much unhappiness.

Often my prayers were that God would reveal true happiness to me. My thought became clear that happiness does not depend on material possessions and relationships. Later, through the encouragement of a practitioner, I joined a branch church, became active in church work, and took class instruction. Through this activity much regeneration took place, and happiness was gained.
